It is with regret that Central Alberta Co-op announces the closure of our Downtown Pharmacy location in Red Deer, effective August 1, 2025. The decision has been made after careful consideration of the economic challenges and the location’s ability to achieve sustained viability. Our pharmacy team will continue to offer all pharmacy services until that time.

Central Alberta Co-op is committed to continuing pharmacy services at our Deer Park and Timberlands locations in Red Deer. You can expect to receive the same friendly service that you have become accustomed to when visiting any of our Central Alberta Co-op locations.

Why is Central Alberta Co-op closing Downtown Pharmacy? 

Central Alberta Co-op has a responsibility to our entire membership to ensure long-term sustainability is maintained. As a result, we must adapt, and sometimes tough decisions are necessary to remain viable. Following several months of review and financial analysis by management and your Board of Directors, this difficult decision was made. Please know that this decision was made after careful consideration. 

What date is the location closing? 

This location will cease operation on August 1, 2025. Central Alberta Co-op will work with current members and customers to ensure a smooth and satisfactory transition. 

What does Central Alberta Co-op’s future look like? 

One of our Brand Values is Responsibility - committed to employees, members, and community. Providing our members/customers with support for the communities we do business in will continue to be our top priority and we will continue to look at all opportunities to grow your Central Alberta Co-op. 

Will other locations be closing? 

No, there are no other Central Alberta Co-op locations closing. Our guests can expect to receive the same friendly service that they have become accustomed to when shopping at any of our remaining Co-op locations. Our Deer Park and Timberlands Pharmacy locations will continue to provide members and customers with their Pharmacy needs. 

What will happen to the Team Members at the location? 

Arrangements have been made with each Team Member to relocate to another Central Alberta Co-op Pharmacy location. 

What happens to the pharmacy customers that shop at this location?

Current Downtown customers will be informed about the closure of this location through a phone call, a letter, or both. Unless we are instructed otherwise, their prescriptions and medical records will be securely transferred to the Deer Park or Timberlands Pharmacy locations.
