GREETINGS FROM YOUR 2021-22 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
June 3, 2021

On May 19, 2021, Central Alberta Co-op Ltd. (CAC) held its Annual General Meeting; this year marked the second year that CAC held its AGM and elections virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director of Finance, Mark Music presented the Co-op’s Financial Statement for the year 2020 – 21 fiscal year and announced that our Co-op ended the year with a net savings of $8.3 Million; a fantastic year. CEO Rodney Perigny then provided the Management Report for the year in review. Rodney also spoke about the results from the Retail Shopper and Brand Experience survey that members were invited to participate in the Fall of 2020. He extended thanks our membership for their continued support which helped guide our Co-op to a very prosperous year and to our team for their hard work over the last 14 months.

Current Director, President Barb Dixon presented the annual board report and announced the Board approved an allocation of $5.8 Million and a cash repayment to members of $2.2 Million which, would be paid out at the end of May.

The unique circumstances of the pandemic provided the Board of Directors with the opportunity to accommodate the members with a customized, convenient, and effective nomination, election, and AGM. The Board determined the procedures of the nominating committee according to Bylaw 7.03 (b) and the Board followed Bylaw 7.05 (a) to (f) voting procedures for the 2021 election.

The Board of Directors followed our values of excellence, integrity and responsibility when determining our election process. The Board of Directors unanimously made the following election decisions:

  • Voting would be held electronically (Bylaw 7.05 (j)) to accommodate the restrictions of the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • There would be a 3 week voting period from April 19 – May 9, 2021.
  • Electronic voting stations would be available at multiple CAC locations on various dates during the voting period to provide members with the opportunity to visit a location to vote via the provided electronic voting stations.
  • CAC would hire a reputable third-party company to provide a secure and confidential voting platform and facilitate the voting on behalf of CAC; Simply Voting was the election voting platform provider.
  • The 3 successful Director candidates who received the highest number of votes would be announced at the Annual General Meeting on May 19.

All votes for the election of the Central Alberta Co-op Directors were cast electronically. After closing the election on May 9, votes were tabulated by Simply Voting and sealed. Simply Voting sent the results to CAC’s head office in a confidential and secure envelope. Mark Music opened the secured envelope during the AGM in front of the camera, announcing that 713 CAC members voted in the election and the 3 successful candidates were Barb Dixon, Dale Hansen, and Jason Nevins.

We would like to thank each of the candidates for their interest in becoming a member of our Board of Directors and for taking the time to participate in the election.

The Board of Directors is pleased that we could arrange the electronic voting in order to carry on our democratic process during the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also delighted that we were able to offer our members the option of voting at one of the many electronic voting stations set up at our locations.

Many thanks go out to the excellent, trustworthy, and responsible Central Alberta Co-op team for their dedication and determination in holding a successful annual general meeting. Your commitment to excellence is very much appreciated.

I am excited to continue serving the membership of Central Alberta Co-op Ltd. and look forward to hosting the Annual General Meeting in 2022.
